Founded in 1940 during a pivotal period in the development of biological sciences, Zhurnal Obshchei Biologii was established to provide a comprehensive forum for theoretical and experimental research across the entire spectrum of biological disciplines. The journal was created under the auspices of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the Russian Academy of Sciences) with the mission of advancing biological knowledge and fostering international scientific collaboration.

Throughout its distinguished history, the journal has published seminal works by leading biologists from Russia and around the world, contributing significantly to major advances in evolutionary biology, ecology, molecular biology, and theoretical biology. Our commitment to scientific excellence and rigorous peer review has established Zhurnal Obshchei Biologii as one of the most respected publications in the field of general biology.
